Preparing to Take a VTMIT Course

(Information for current students only; assumes acceptance to the program.)

Step 1 - REGISTER
  • Check the schedules for spring, summer, or fall to determine when to register. If the COURSE REQUEST period is open, you can request registration in a course, but your enrollment will not be confirmed until the DROP/ADD period opens. If the DROP/ADD period is open, your enrollment will be immediate. You cannot use the Hokie SPA to register outside of these times - you will simply have to wait.
  • Print the instructions for registering using the Hokie SPA
  • Sign in at the Hokie SPA and follow the instructions
Step 2 - PAY YOUR TUITION
  • The University Bursar will mail you a bill, but be aware of payment deadlines in case you do not get the bill in time. Late payments will be assessed a penalty fee.
  • Rather than wait for a bill, you can check the amount you owe using the Hokie SPA
  • Follow the payment directions. Payments can be made in cash or money order, or you can pay online with a credit card through the Hokie SPA.
Step 3 - TEST SYSTEMS A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE START OF THE SEMESTER
  • Make sure you can successfully sign in to the Blackboard Portal. The courses you are taking should be listed there. Make sure you feel comfortable navigating Blackboard.
  • If you have not used CentraOne software before, read the online tutorial. Install the client software (instructions in the tutorial) and test your audio and headset.
  • Create a CentraOne account if you do not already have one.
  • Check the course website (via the Blackboard Portal) to determine what textbooks or software you may need to purchase. These items may be ordered and shipped to you from the Northern Virginia Center Bookstore. Follow any instructions the course instructor may have posted on the course website.
